Day 1-We're in London!

Well, we are finally here! Mom, Aunt Beth, Aunt Molly, my sister Grace and I and our cousins Maddie and Charlotte are in Europe together! We arrived in London about 9:30am London time after flying all night. We tried to sleep on the plane-that didn't work too well! The plane ride was really cool though, we went into the cockpit and talked with the captain. We rode on an A330 Airbus. The flight is about 3775 miles across the Atlantic Ocean. We were 39,0000 feet in the air! We flew all night and it was kind of foggy when we arrived. London gets a lot of rain the water evaporates into the air so they get a lot of fog too. We are staying at the Edward Lear Inn, a bed and breakfast that used to be the home of Edward Lear, a famous children's poetry author. There are framed pieces of his work all around the hotel, here is one from his poem The Owl and the Pussy Cat.
Later we rode on the Tube, London's subway, it was really fast! People use the Tube to get anywhere in the city fast. They still have a lot of traffic, but I noticed barely any SUV's, mostly smaller campact type cars.

Their cars have the steering wheel on the left side and they drive on the opposite side of the road from us. We got London food for lunch, yogurt and fancy sandwichs. They seem to eat many different things here than we do in Michigan!

We went to St. Paul's Cathedral and crypt. We learned a lot about the history and got some good chocolate! We went up a winding staircase into the dome of the cathedral. The dome is all handpainted on the ceiling and it was really cool from way up high. The stone stairs were all eroded away in the centers from people walking on them for 300 years.

The Crypt grave stones that were sunk into the floor were well worn from people walking on them too.

After that we went on a night walk of London and learned all about how it was started by the Romans in 55B.C! There is a river running through London called the Thames, which means dark river. There is a tidal inflow into the river 4 times a day and it stirs up the mud in the water so much that it never really settles to the bottom, just stays disolved in the water and makes it look dirty. The tour guide said this is one of the only major cities in the world with a river running through it that doesn't use it for transportation or commerce. He said they basically don't use it for anything except to look pretty. It does divide the city into two geographical areas though, the North and South Banks. We learned a bunch of funny new English phrases already. The Loo is the bathroom, Wave On means flush, the Lift is an elevator and instead of saying Exit, they say Way Out. We had dinner at a famous fish and chips place after that, the third oldest in London. It was delicious and now we are tired and ready to throw in the towel for today. See you tomorrow for more fun and excitement.

Cheerio,
Christian Huber

Wow what a wonderful blog Christian. I wondered how you are doing with all those women but I see you are doing very well. It's too bad they want to go see all those sissy plays and not a good old football match!

I am going to link your blog to our www.internetadvisor.net homepage because I had your momma on the air with me on Saturday talking about them.

Have a good night and a wonderful day tomorrow while we are still sleeping! We have a ton of snow and it is really cold and we are supposed to get more of the cold white stuff.

Love,
Grandpa Foster

Glad you made it safe and sound to jolly old England. Your first day sounded great. I'm sure you'll sleep well tonight after being in the plane all night last night. I'm sure, though, that it was a lot more comfortable than flying in my plane.

I'm looking forward to hearing about all your adventures. Don't fall in the loo-ha ha.

haha. this is cool. i love that i can see what you guys are doing. there are a lot of cool pictures. i cant believe how old all of that stuff is. did the romans really start london? i had no idea but i always wondered about that kind of thing. good to know. this is for this entry and the one above it. in french class we learned all about french food and the teacher was obsessed with it. she said it was the best thing she has ever had. you have to have a croque- monsieur (finetically: croak monsieur). and i notice you got some rason scones. ben will be hapoy to hear about that. haha. have a great time and dont take money from sharks. i love you guys.

On man, what a great time is sounds like you guys are having. It's true what Mrs. Taylor said, it's really cold here. I'm down to our last logs in the fireplace but I've got another fallen Oak tree scouted out and am going to get more wood at the end of the day.
Ben's soccer team moved up to Division 4 for the coming outdoor season. they got pounded by the Gators 5-0. Uncle Danny said it was ugly.
Mitch's team tied two and lost two in Chicago. We went with Mitch's team to the hard Rock cafe in downtown Chicago and then to the ESPN zone. A Hamburger at the hard Rock was $12.00+. A grilled cheese and Fries was $6.99. I told Mitchell and Ben, "we're getting water and we're splitting Nachos off the Appetizers menu..." $12.00 for a burger. What a ripoff.
We got home late yesterday and Ben went to Grandmpa and Grandma's house with Jacob and Carson. Grandpa said they were wired all evening. Ben really perked up when he found out he could go to Grandpa's and see Jake and Carson last nite.
The church had their fish dinner last Friday and they fed 500 people! I was real suprised. Rev. marshall said it got hairy for a while but they made it.
Other than all this, Mitchell, Ben and I are counting down the days till you guys come back. I can't speak for the other guys but I really miss all of you. The house seems real big and empty without you three.
So see all you can see, be safe and hurry home. I'll have some extra sweet crepes and goat's cheese waiting for all of you.
Love Dad
